My Mentorship // WEber family dental
Here's how I got to where I am now. At the beginning of the year, Mrs. Killingsworth and I discussed the possibility of mentoring at a surgery center so that I could really get to see some fun stuff and because I am very interested in being some sort of surgeon.
However, because I was only sixteen, going on seventeen, at the time, and the time slot I had open for my mentorship was very early in the morning, there were no surgery centers or medical centers like what we were looking for that were available to me.
Then, Mrs. Killingsworth suggested mentoring at a dentist's office; they would be open early, constantly doing procedures, and be great for patient experience. I agreed that that was a fantastic idea and was placed at Weber Family Dental on Enota Dr.
Weber Family Dental is run by Dr. Joseph Weber D.M.D., my mentor, who practices cosmetic, sedation, general, and family dentistry. The small office also houses two dental hygienists, Kari and Melissa, as well as Dr. Weber's dental assistant, Jenny, and office personnel, Gina and Nicole. At my mentorship, I watch the procedures that Dr. Weber does. such as doing fillings, doing crowns, and fitting patients for dental appliances (partials, nightguards, etc.). Sometimes, if the schedule for the morning is a bit slow, I'll help Gina and Nicole out at the front desk by getting the mail, filing and pulling charts, and restocking merchandise.

Through my mentorship thus far, I have learned that I really love the private practice side of medicine; it's very intimate, you get to know each patient very well, and you have a lot of control over the goings on of the practice. I have also confirmed, through my mentorship, that I love medicine and find the human body extremely interesting. I believe that this mentorship is preparing me for the future by allowing me to learn these things early on, to gain patient experience, and to learn employability skills such as timeliness, patience, and initiative.
